Checking In

In most cases, our vacation home guests would not lock their rooms and there’s really no need to if you all know each other. However, we have also thought ahead for you. You may have a surprise you want hidden for the right time or to keep the kids out of the Hot Tub and only with your permission. So we wanted to make sure you can get back in and out if needed. The keys to the castle are labeled room keys and are in the leather FAQ Gude binder.&nbsp; If you need to use one, please return it to the binder.

Room Keys

 Please strip the beds sheets, pillowcases and leave atop of beds. 
 2. Leave used towels and bathrobes in the bathtubs. 
 3. Run dishwasher for last set of dishes. 
 4. Vacuum any large messes.&nbsp;There are regular vacuum cleaners in the entry hall
 closet, pantry and in the upstairs laundry room. A broom is in the kitchen pantry for
 quick pick ups along with dust pan. 
 5. Cinch up garbage in house from all receptacles and place into garbage cans
 on back of house. 
 6. Cardboard and recyclables placed into blue recycling cans outside as well.

Video Tour

Velkommen! If it’s dark when you arrive, the outside lights around the promenade and down the front and back driveway are on dusk to dawn- timers. The porch light under the entryway is motion activated along with the tunnel lights.&nbsp; The front door code given will just need to punched into keypad to automatically unlock the door.

Arrival and Departure

No smoking is our general policy. Absolutely no smoking inside the home. Outside, there are designated smoking areas (one off the back deck, and one around side of the front. There are ash receptacles with silicon chips. Please do clean your butts out of the ash trays before you leave. We appreciate it! No Fireworks or Gun shooting! No pets allowed.

The Stockholm room has a king size bed, ensuite
with a double size bed and a single bed with&nbsp;a full bathroom and a separate

In addition,&nbsp; the TV room and living room
of Innsbruck rooms each have a queen sofa pullout beds.The Lillestrøm
Room has a queen sized Murphy bed that can be pulled down.
Also there are 3 single rollaway beds with bedding in the walk-in
closets of the Trondheim, Bergen and Oslo bedrooms.There are two half baths; one on main floor and one in basement. 
Lastly there are 4 sleeping bags with yoga mats
in the TV room for kids to camp out/sleep in if desired.

Sleeping Accommodations

The temperature control is in the hallway. You can use the arrows up and down to the temp that you would like if you want a quick temp change. When guests are scheduled to arrive we set the house heat or air conditioning at around 70 degrees. This is usually very adequate. In each upstairs room, there are ductless units that will add heat or air conditioning for your comfort and operated with remotes tabled in a cradle on the walls. All the rooms need to be on either heat or on airconditioning to work and cannot be on different settings individually. You will also find an extra blanket in the room if needed.

Heating & Cooling

Feel free to use it safely and see instructions below. Wood, kindling and firestarter cubes are provided in the winter for first fire and then guests supply extra on their own if desired. 1. Pull Damper rod out toward you - located just above the fireplace doors. This is the open position and will alllow you to get air to the starting of the fire. If there’s a fire in the fireplace, or smoldering ashes, the Damper MUST stay open. You can push it in halfway once the fire burns well and it will burn slower then. 2. Locate the Blower Switch and Dial in the lower right hand corner of the fireplace frame. To turn the Blower on, toggle the Switch to the right. To modulate the blower’s intensity, turn the dial clockwise for UP and counter- clockwise for DOWN. 3. Start small, building the fire up. This fireplace is intended to burn 1-2 logs at a time for maximum efficiency. 4. Please do not use the downstairs fireplace.

There are two recycling cans in left drawer next to sink in kitchen and a garbage can at the end of sink cabinet. There are 6 garbage containers outside on back of house along with 2 blue recycling cans One extra overflow garbage can is also at the back of the house by the garage doors and one extra garbage can outside of the doors by pool table. Extra garbage bags for inside garbage cans can be found in the bottom of kitchen garbage cans and in pantry Please empty the garbage and recycling cans inside the house when you leave.&nbsp;&nbsp;

Garbage 

Paper Towel: There is one extra roll in addition to the one on the counter in cabinet. Toilet Paper: Each bathroom has a 4 roll supply of toilet paper. The “public” restroom on the main floor has 3 extra rolls.

Paper Supplies/Soaps

Wipe/rinse dishes before putting in the dishwasher. Let us know if there is any breakage. There is not a garbage disposal in the sink or dishwasher. Please wash sharper knives by hand, not in the dishwasher.

Dishwasher

Take EVERYTHING that you brought with you. Anything left will be thrown away. There is an extra refrigerator in the Pantry as well one additional one in the Innsbruck room downstairs. There is usually Salt, Pepper, Dried Spices,Sugar, Splenda, Coffeemate, selection of teabags, popcorn and are generally in cabinet next to sink or above counter top coffee pot.

Refrigerator

The warming drawer is a wonderful thing. Make sure you use a hot pad to take things out of the drawer – they do get hot. And Please make sure you turn the unit OFF when done.

(We like coffee. It’s a Scandinavian thing!)

Washer-Dial up the setting you want, hit control, and press and hold start. That should do it. Dryer-Use the timer setting for about 40-45 min. That seems to be long enough for the towels and sheets. When you leave, please leave the door to the washing machine and the soap dispenser drawer open. Otherwise the machine will mildew. Please do not use fabric softener in the dispenser, as it will not wash out. There are regular vacuum cleaners in the entry hall closet and in the laundry room. A broom is in the kitchen pantry as well in the downstairs kitchen closet for quick pick ups along with dust pan and vaccum dust pan is in the kitchen as well.

Laundry / Vacuum / Brooms 

We actually had this happen to us on the last night of our stay at a VRBO in Leaven- worth. It was an adventure – and it was very dark! When it gets windy, it could happen that we would lose power here at Nordic Hill and surrounding areas. We’ve been pretty fortunate as we have had some nasty storms and just ended up with short power outages. We receive an email from Puget Sound Energy immediately when power is disrupted along with estimated restoration times. We’ll advise you as we know. For your safety there are flashlights in each bedroom as well as in the kitchen. Please do not let children run around in the house or outside around the house in pitch dark. Flashlight tag might sound fun but it gets very dark and there are too many drop offs.First Aid Kit is in the pantry. Do NOT use the elevator when the power is off. Thank you.

Power Outtages Happen 

Towels for each guest are in each bedroom and ready for you. Upon leaving, please leave the rest of dirty towels in the bathtub in each room. There are also large blue towels for use at entrance of the spa. Kitchen dish towels and sponges/cloths are in one of the kitchen drawers. Please just add used and/or wet ones to towels in one of the room bathtubs so we can keep all towels together at end of your stay. Strip beds/sheets/pillow cases/ and leave on the beds that were used.

Sheets / Towels 

Please make sure all doors and windows are closed and locked when you leave the house, especially when you check out. The front door locks automatically within about 30 seconds. When you check out or leave for an extended period, please just make sure it’s locked. You can press the little button with the lock picture on it. You will not be given a code for the side door which leads to rear parking, You are free to use the door but you may need to re-enter thru the front. The door off the kitchen is a deadbolt. Please keep the deadbolt in place unless you’re cooking or sitting out on the deck.

Doors and Windows 

Please use the Samsung remote for the TV and DVD remote for DVD. You may sign into your own Netflix account and enjoy binge watching something in a comfy recliner if you have a rainy day or just want to “hygge."

TV/DVD Room and Bar TV on the Main Floor

Ice Maker runs automatically and please do not turn off. The kitchen fridge makes ice as well. We do ask that you are careful with our barware. It’s years of collecting from here and there and we don’t mind sharing if you’re caring. If anything does break (we’ve had it happen ourselves), please do let us know. Please make sure you empty the garbage can under the bar sink before you check out. Thanks! You will notice some of the cabinets are locked to keep some items for owner personal use or for a planned event coming up. You are welcome to bring your own wine and whatever drink you choose. Cooling wine refrigerator is always on to chill your whites.

Bar Area 

Please keep sliding door in billiard room locked and secured after 8pm. (This is the easiest door to forget to lock.) Have fun playing downstairs with some card games or board games. Play Shuffleboard or with miniature bowling pins. Play pool. Play Bumper Pool or try your unnerving hand at giant Jenga.

Basement & Game Rooms 

Our 16-seat theater is a fun gathering place with a 137” screen. It is a Wi-Fi streaming system which will allow you to sign in with Roku to access your Netflix, Amazon Prime or Hulu accounts as well as allow you to hook up a Laptop, Xbox or PlayStation with a plugged into system auxillary cable that is provided. Please see specific instructions below and in the theater room on how to use the equipment. Please DO NOT unplug any wires, cables or press buttons on the projector. There are dozens and dozen of DVD’s just outside the theatre entrance. Please feel free to enjoy and take care to return DVDs to their rightful case. 1. Light switch to Theater is on your right inside entry way. 2. Projector will take a minute or two to warm up when turned on. 3. There is a universal digital display remote in a charging cradle. Power on button turns on projector as well as pushing any of the below options buttons. 4. On remote display there are three options: Roku, Blue Ray Disc Player, Auxillary 5. Roku button will bring up options to press and log into your Netflix, Prime or other channels. 6. Blue Ray Disc button will power on Blue Ray DVD player and give you control options of Blue Ray DVD player 7. Auxiliary button will allow you to play your Xbox, Playstation or Laptop. Plug in the provided wired into the system HDMI cable laying atop of Blue Ray player in order to play your unit. 8. Power off button on remote shuts off everything. 9. Please DO NOT switch any cables or push any other buttons on the projection unit or the back of Blue Ray player. The remote is custom programmed with the system. If you do we will charge you a $300 reprogramming/configuring fee! 10. Light dimmer switch below projector console to dim/brighten lights to desired levels. 11. ALWAYS place remote control back into charging cradle when done in theater. It will lengthen the battery life of remote by 4 years.

Theatre 

There are two power buttons; one for the main stereo on top unit for the Great Room and the other power button on bottom unit for controlling speakers outside and through several rooms. There is a individual rooms and volume control unit with the rooms labeled including outdoor pole lights. You can have music in all of them or can just select rooms. The default setting for stereo amplifier is set for Tuner/Radio Station. To stream from your phone, turn on your Bluetooth into discovery mode and press Marantz remote (which is atop of tuner) Buetooth button for 3 seconds for pairing with Marantz SR5014. Play from your streaming service/playlist. The Kitchen, Salzburg room, Downstairs and Hot Tub all have individual volume knobs in the rooms as well.

Stereo System 

Beekman shampoos, conditioner,&nbsp; soaps, loofahs and shower caps. We love being able to offer such quality amenities to enjoy if you forget to bring your own. Each bathroom has 1 of each shampoo and conditioner mounted on the walls of the shower. There is&nbsp; a bar of soap, lotion, make up remover wipe and shower cap in each bathroom&nbsp;vanity as well.

Beekman Amenities 

We are on a septic system. NOTHING/repeat/NOTHING goes into the toilet unless it’s been con- sumed, or toilet paper. No grease, Sanitary products, or Kleenex. etc. When in doubt, leave it out. Use only liquid laundry detergent for laundry and dishwasher tabs for the dishwasher (provided)

Bathroom & Septic 

Please see instructions below: 1. Please keep at least one window cracked slightly 2. The temperature and jets are regulated at the spa control on the tub. It is pre-set for sustained efficiency of the tub over a period of time and temperature can be adjusted up or down. 3. There is a floating ball that self regulates chlorine levels and needs to stay in the Hot Tub. Do NOT put any soaps or shampoos in the Hot Tub or a cleaning fee of $200 will be assessed. 4. No more than 4 people in the Hot Tub at a time 5. Overflowing the tub will ruin the electrical control monitor. 6. For Guests staying longer than 3 days and daily use, please add a canister of Chlorine provided on the window sill by Spa every three days. 7. When in Unoccupied Mode, the hot tub will still circulate water—this is how it stays hot. 8. Now go Relax!!

We have recently installed these games for our guests which can be found by walking all the way down the driveway by the Fireplace Table and straight ahead towards the woods and will find them on your left hand side. Enjoy challenging one another and have fun!

Checkers, Chess, Horseshoes Pits, Cornhole and Volleyball

Turn on/off at the tank. The igniter should work, but if not, there are gas lighters in kitchen drawer and there are matches are by the fireplace. Make sure tank is off when you are done using it and definitely before you check out.

Check the Kitsap County website for any current burn bans. During a burn ban, a small recreational fire is still allowed. Tanks and starting button are located on each end of the table by opening metal door. Remove the two table lid covers when a fire is lit. Please follow same procedure as for bbq. Turn on tank when in use, and turn off before you check out. No roasting of marshmallows or Hot Dogs please.

Outdoor Fire Table 

Feel free to roam through the 10 acre woods with signs for walking trails and perhaps see glimpses of our resident deer. Stroll through the pasture which in winter time forms into a natural pond that attracts ducks and bald eagles for outdoor spa days.

Stay in Touch 

Nordic Hill Manor was a vision by our family to build a generational dream home for creating memories and sharing it with the public. Our heritage is Northern European, with my father’s mother coming from Oslo, Norway. I was adopted by my father from Austria at age 11. I married my wife KJ whose family is from Sweden, thus the Norwegian, Swedish and Austrian cities room names. The pictures in the bar and great room are from my wife and I travels to Norway, Sweden and Austria. My father had a wanderlust of international travel and had been around the world several times. My career in international supply chain and logistics has afforded me to have traveled the world as well with amassed trips to over 60 countries to date. My father was an avid snow skier, mountain climber, hiker and had a degree in Cinematography from USC. He has produced a number of documentary films from the Northwest about Seattle City Light Ross Lake Dam, Mount Rainier, Quileute Indians and Pacific Crest Trail. He ran a movie theater in Berlin, Germany during World War 2 while stationed there. His love of making movies has always inspired him to have a home theater to show and watch movies. Over the years, we had taken thousands of pictures of architectural styles and designs of homes we have seen in our travels to Europe. In 2004 we hired an architect to draw up designs/features we wanted in Nordic Hill Manor based on those pictures from our travels. My father was 77 years old as we started the construction in 2004 and we fulfilled our vision of finishing the dream home in 2008. Many of the furnishings came from overseas such as the lights in the Great Room, entry way, dining room and Theater are from Austria; the coffee table from Italy; pewter silverware in the drawers from Norway; toilet flush buttons from Germany. We managed Nordic Hill initially under a different name as a Bed and Breakfast, which we had stayed in on many of our travels to Europe. We hosted it as such until my fathers passing which was in June of 2016. My wife and I then began converting and marketing it as a vacation rental with a personal feel, touch of Nordic Hospitality and being well stocked for our guests.
