We are here in this World only briefly, visitors you might say, and we cannot take anything with us when we leave, but we can certainly pass them on to the next generation. Nurturing our World, growing it, and leaving it a better place than when we found it is at the soul of our characters, not just for ourselves, but for those that must fill our shoes. Looking after oneself, one’s neighbors, the environment, and the World, for the short time we are here, is our responsibility and it is how we give our humble thanks for our lives. We are a family of just such Stewards -- military veterans, firefighters, police officers, EMTs, and nurses. In fact, the Owners are a combat infantryman and a tough-as-nails nurse. You probably have such a hero or Steward in your family too. If you do, then we thank you for all they did.

The Outpost is a unique and special place to stay. We created it for a single person, a couple, the family, several couples, a couple of families, small bachelorette/ bachelor groups, etc., depending on what you plan to do. Preservation of history is at the core of Stewardship, and to that end, The Outpost is built from various first responder buildings, military forts, museums, and monuments from all across Texas. How many times have you walked through a museum with all of the relics carefully protected with glass barriers, what they must feel like, their texture, their weight, their smell? There is so much more to history than just pages in a book or swords behind glass – much can be learned through touch – so we encourage you to take things out of their cases; to touch and feel all the items throughout the cabin. You can interact with a vast number of artifacts by holding, opening, reading, and exploring them. We hope in some way that we have built a bridge in history to connect you with the lives of the men and women who sacrificed so much for the rest of us.

Stewardship is also about caring for our land and how we pass it on to our children. The Outpost has a huge biodiversity and is an active conservation area. Do not pick any of the cacti or other flora on the property. Many of the flowers are intentionally propagated by the Owners for the Monarch Migrations as they make their way to the Sierra Madre Mountains in Mexico in September through October. The Outpost is even designated as a Monarch Waystation. Do not kill any of the other insects, wild turkeys, deer, mammals, reptiles, snails, or any other wildlife, unless there is an imminent threat or immediate danger. The Outpost has a large library to research these and many of the other animals/flora you may discover on the property.

Your Stewardship is also part of your own personal history at The Outpost. Not only can you explore and care for the cabin and its grounds, but you can become part of it by leaving behind a personal artifact, unit patch, pin, insignia, challenge coin, a photo, an engraved brick, etc., so that you add to the cabin’s rich history. We will take great care in preserving and documenting your items.

The Owners have four children, so we are well-accustomed that accidents happen, things get broken, kids do dumb things and sometimes things don’t go the way you intended. No worries, we are used to it. Just let us know so we can fix or replace it – place the broken item on the island and send us a picture. We put a lot of work into making this a special place for you, so be respectful, have a blast and create great memories. Cherish your time here and have as much fun as you possibly can.
