House Rules

🏡 House Policies

🏡 House Policies

👟 Shoes & Cleanliness

  • Remove shoes inside the apartment.
  • If shoes are wet or dirty, take them off at the bottom of the stairs to prevent mud, water, or bugs from entering the home.
  • Do not place luggage on bedding.
  • Do not leave food out (on counters, pots, or pans), as it can attract rodents and cause unpleasant smells.
  • Stainless steel cookware was chosen for your health — please keep it clean.
  • No hot items or staining substances on countertops.
  • Maintain a clean environment inside the apartment.
  • Do not clean the apartment or linens with chemical-based cleaners or fragrances (we aim for a chemical-free environment).

🚽 Plumbing & Bathrooms

  • Plumbing is sensitive — do not flush paper towels, feminine products, large amounts of hair, or anything other than toilet paper.
  • Run the bathroom exhaust fan while showering and turn it off when complete.
  • In the bathroom, only the left shower door slides — the right is fixed in place by design. Please do not force it.

🚭 Smoking, Vaping, Fire & Safety

  • No smoking, vaping, candles, or incense. A $2000 fine applies.
  • No open flames of any kind.
  • Fire extinguisher is located in the kitchen.
  • Do not run ceiling fans at high speed for days at a time.
  • No grilling.

👥 Guests & Occupancy

  • No parties or large gatherings (maximum 6 people).
  • The house comfortably sleeps up to 4 guests.
  • Additional guests: $50 per person, per night (air mattresses available if needed).

  • Animals are generally not permitted.
  • On rare occasions where permission is given, do not leave animals alone in the apartment.
  • Animals are not allowed on furniture or bedding.

🔊 Noise & Respect

  • Keep noise levels low to respect other guests.
  • No fights, parties, loud music, shouting, or door slamming.
  • Quiet hours: 10 PM – 9 AM (22:00 – 09:00 military time).
  • Please walk softly — this 1905 home has sturdy bones, but sound travels easily.
  • No drug use or heavy use of alcohol.

🌡️ Heating, Cooling & Energy

  • Do not set the heat higher than 75°F.
  • No box air conditioners in the front window.
  • Do not leave windows open on humid or rainy days.

Heating and Cooling

❄️🌡️ Heating & Air Conditioning Guidelines

To help keep Oak Haus comfortable and running smoothly:

  • Do not open windows on humid/moist days — excess moisture can cause the doors to swell and become harder to open, and it also makes the AC work harder.
  • On cool, sunny days, you may open the windows for fresh air instead of running the AC.
  • Avoid running ceiling fans at high speed for long periods — gentle circulation is best.
  • Always turn off the heat or AC when leaving the apartment, and be sure to close all windows if the air is on.
  • For heating, please keep the thermostat no higher than 74°F.

Thank you for helping us keep the space cozy, efficient, and easy to use 🌿
